What TPLO is
TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) is surgery for dogs with a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury. A damaged CCL can cause pain and instability in the knee, leading to further joint damage and arthritis. TPLO can restore stability and give your dog a better chance of returning to a comfortable, active life.

Evaluation
We get to know your dog and exactly what is happening with their knee: a complete orthopedic evaluation and digital radiographs to find the best surgical approach. We talk through what to expect, answer your questions and make sure you are comfortable with the plan.
Surgery
Dr. Moeder performs the TPLO at Candlewood using specialized bone-plating techniques. Afterwards your dog gets pain management and you get detailed instructions for care at home. Most dogs go home with buried, absorbable sutures, so there is no visit just to remove stitches.
Recovery
Our team helps you through recovery. Around eight weeks after surgery we take follow-up radiographs to check how the bone is healing and decide when your dog can safely return to normal activity.
What recovery looks like
TPLO recovery takes patience. For about 8 to 12 weeks your dog needs restricted activity while the bone heals. That means no running, jumping, roughhousing or chasing squirrels, as tempting as those are.
You will get clear instructions for building activity back up: short, slow leash walks and gentle exercises early on, then more as healing progresses. Your job is to keep your dog comfortable, calm and on track. Our job is to give you the information and support to do that.
